The Liberal Party’s peak council has voted almost 2:1 to privatise the ABC but cabinet ministers have assured the public they will not sell off the public broadcaster because their party is not based on democratic principles.
“We rule from the top, we don’t listen to the plebs down the bottom of the pile,” PM Malcolm Turnbull told reporters.
“The ABC will never be privatised, until a change in dictatorship.”
The coalition recently cut funding to the ABC to give future coalition governments the opportunity to argue the organisation needs to be privatised due to a decrease in quality.
The council also voted 43 to 31 votes to relocate the Australian embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, and voted 63 votes to 11 to privatise Barnaby Joyce.
“Let me reassure you, the government will not be privatising Barnaby Joyce,” said Finance Minister Mathias Cormann.
