The Saudi Arabia government has released a statement saying the murder of missing journalist Jamal Kashoggi inside its consulate in Instanbul was an administrative error.
A special team of 15 Saudi officials were sent into the consulate to have a quiet chat with Kashoggi, but they accidentally carried out a severe form of interrogation by cutting off his fingers.
Mr Khashoggi, a Washington Post contributor, was then mistakenly decapitated.
“I don’t know how many times we told them, just go in and shoot the shit for a while,” one Saudi official told reporters.
“We didn’t actually mean go in and shoot the guy.”
