A man walking up a footpath today has increased his walking tempo to create some distance between himself and another pedestrian.

Jack Miller was moving at a comfortable pace when a stranger came around the corner and started walking within a one-meter radius.

A frustrated Miller waited a few seconds before realizing he would have to take on the role of creating a comfortable gap between himself and the man.

“He was the one who made the right-hand turn onto my path, it was his responsibility to tweak his walking velocity so we weren’t traveling together within a 1-meter radius,” says Miller.

“I decided to be the bigger man and increase my speed to 1.5 meters per second.”

Once achieving a gap of around eight meters, Miller was able to reduce his speed back to a comfortable level.
